ABOUT NANDED:
|
Nanded
earlier known as 'Nandigram' is located to the southeastern part of
Maharashtra State. Nanded is situated 650 kms away from Mumbai and 270
kms from Hyderabad.Nanded has a uniqueness of its own due to its
historical, social and political importance. It is the second largest
city in Marthawada after Aurangabad. Latur and Parbhani districts are to
the west of Nanded district; Yavatmal district lies in the north. The
state of Andhra Pradesh lies to the east and Karnataka state to the
south. Nanded district is amongst the large districts in the state
having 15 Talukas.Nanded is one of the largest districts in Maharashtra
State comprising of 15 Talukas. Agriculture
is the core economic strength of the region. However district also has
reasonable presence of Industrial activities, majority of them are agro
based.
Nanded also gains its significance due the presence of some of
the important religious places for Sikhs and Hindus. Most of the
population in Nanded lives in rural area.Nanded town with a population
of over 4.25 lakhs is the epicenter of the region driving its economic
activities. However despite its inadequacies in infrastructure, the
region has inherent potential to be one of the good regional

By Road
 Nanded
is 650 km east of Mumbai by road. It is about 4-5 hours drive from
Aurangabad i.e.252 Km. and 11 hours from Pune i.e. 421 km. Nanded Its
about approximate 250 km from Hyderabad. Several passenger bus services
operate out of Nanded providing easy overnight connectivity with all
most every major city in Maharashtra. These buses are reasonably priced
fairly punctual. The comfort level differs greatly from operator to
operator. More over buses from state transport corporation are also
available from the all major cities from Maharastra and Hyderabad.
By Rail
Sachkhand express is a special super fast train being stared from
Amritsar to direct Nanded other wise many other trains are also linked
with the railway network for the Nanded. Currently Nanded railway line
is connected to Mumbai via Manmad and Hyderabad via Secunderabad

By Air
Nanded is connected with three flights in a week for
Mumbai via Latur and Twice a week to national capital Delhi via Nagpur.
The nearest international airport is Hyderabad(284 kilometre). Nanded
has the distinction of having Marathwada regions first airport. As a
part of JNNURM mission and Guru Ta Gaddi programe held in October 2008,
it has been renovated and named as 'Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji Airport'.
It was inaugurated on 4 October 2008 by Union
Aviation Minister Praful Patel and Maharashtra the then Chief Minister
Vilasrao Deshmukh. The Kingfisher Airlines has started the first
commercial flight from Nanded airport operating between Mumbai-Nanded-Latur.
The flight operates tfour times a week viz Monday, Wednesday,Friday and
sunday. The airport has been upgraded at a cost of Rs. 940 million and
the facilities available include a huge terminal building to handle 300
passengers and a runway to handle big aircraft like Boeing 737s and
Airbus 319-320. It also now has three parking bays for large aircraft,
six check-in counters, plush passenger terminals, fuelling stations and
all other passenger and flight operations facilities, including night
operations.
Due to the celebrations held in Oct 2008 to mark
300th death anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh and consecration of Guru
Granth Sahib as the last guru of Sikh community by him, Nanded has
received massive investment in infrastructure development. Roads are
being upgraded. A new railway platform has been constructed near the
existing Nanded railway station. A new Railway Station (Suburb) at
Maltekdi has been constructed and is functioning.
GoAir has launched Mumbai-Nanded-Nagpur-Delhi
service twice a week. It's planning shortly to expand its services.
